  2008 OSLHA AWARD RECIPIENTS

It is with great pleasure that OSLHA recognizes very special people who have significantly contributed to the profession of speech-language pathology and audiology. Awards were conferred at the Annual OSLHA convention in Columbus, Ohio. OSLHA would like to congratulate:

Honors of the Association

This award recognizes distinguished contributions to the field of Speech and Hearing and is the highest honor or the Association.  Nominations must include the following information about the nominees:  1) publications and/or other contributions; 2) participation in OSLHA and affiliates; 3) areas of achievement and contributions on which the nominations are based.

Fellow of the Association

The Fellow of the Association is given to a member who has shown professional or scientific achievement. His/her contribution to the profession in any of the following areas:  1) outstanding clinician; 2) outstanding teacher or supervisor; 3) Pioneer in areas of innovation in programs; 4) Builder of programs - state college, public school, or clinical service; 5) contributor to literature or research; 6) contributor to OSLHA.

This award is  in addition to Honors and Fellows of the Association.  The following is considered when nominating an individual for this award:  1) Membership and involvement in a local organization;  2) Membership and involvement in state-national organizations and functions,  3) Innovative contributions to the work setting.

OSLHA Award of Appreciation

This award is presented to individuals, agencies, businesses, or organizations in recognition of significant contributions that have enhanced OSLHA's ability to serve its membership or to enrich the lives of the communicatively impaired.  This award may recognize a member or non-member for dedication in either a broad or focused area of service.  The following information is considered when selecting the recipient(s) of this award:  1) nominees may be members or non-members of OSLHA; 2) contributions to OSLHA's ability to serve its membership or to enrich the lives of the communicatively impaired must be considered significant; 3) contribution can be demonstrated as a single, significant event or may be considered significant because of a series of events or longstanding contributions.

OSLHA Student Recognition Award


This award recognizes an undergraduate or graduate student in the field of Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology who has exhibited the following:  1) Outstanding leadership qualities;  2) Innovative contributions to the field of Speech-Language Pathology and/or Audiology;  3) Membership and involvement in NSSLHA;  4) Membership and involvement in OSLHA.

Consumer Awards

This award is presented to individuals or groups who:
* as consumers of speech, language or audiology services are coping with and successfully achieving with their disabilities (focus being on ability),
or
* as consumer advocate(s) are promoting the rights of individuals with communication disabilities.  These may be parents or spouses of communicatively handicapped individuals or organized consumer groups.

Outstanding Legislator

The Ohio Speech and Hearing Governmental Affairs Coalition (OSHGAC) has named the
2008 Legislator of the Year
.  
It has been awarded to:


Senator JOY PADGETT
District 20


Senator Padgett was the Sponsor of Senate Bill 143 to establish a limited student permit category for speech language pathology interns.  Senator Padgett, a former educator and Chair of the Senate Education Committee, recognized the need to develop a plan to combat the shortage of speech language pathologists in rural school districts throughout Ohio.
