OMNIE’S EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES
The
Ohio Master’s Network Initiatives in Education (OMNIE) is an organized
approach for the recruitment, retention, and continuing education of school
based clinicians and educational audiologists. With support from the Ohio
Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children, the OMNIE Project
is a collaborative effort of a group of dedicated and enthusiastic
individuals from Ohio public state universities and the Ohio Speech-Language
Pathology Supervisory and Audiology Network.
OMNIE continues to develop and offer educational opportunities:
-
Continuing education
and college credit courses in literacy training for SLPs
-
Undergraduate
‘leveling’ courses that fulfill requirements for entrance into a
Master’s program in speech-language pathology
-
Distance learning
Master’s degree in speech-language pathology
to begin January, 2007.
Course listings, descriptions, schedules, and registration information are
available on the OMNIE website
http://www.omnie.org) or contact Nada Allender, Project Coordinator (nada@ameritech.net)
-
SLPs and Literacy:
OMNIE is using it’s successful collaborative university model to partner
with the University of Cincinnati, University of Akron, Miami
University, and the University of Toledo to develop and deliver ten
professional development and/or college credit distance learning courses
for speech-language pathologists to improve their skills in literacy
training. These courses focus on language and literacy development
and link language and literacy skills to Ohio’s Language Art’s Academic
Content Standards and are offered at NO COST to Ohio SLPs. Visit
http://www.speechpathology.com/omnie for registration information
-
Distance Learning Master’s Degree -
OMNIE offers a new statewide collaborative
distance-learning program in speech-language pathology for Ohio
residents interested in a career as a school-based clinician. Ohio
universities report their speech-language pathology graduate programs to
be at capacity, and the numbers students graduating with the degree is
not sufficient to supply the current and projected need. Since the OMNIE
Project has a proven collaborative mechanism that has successfully
delivered an ASHA approved distance Master’s degree in the past, OMNIE
has moved forward to re-design the previous model for a new audience.
The target audience will be Ohio residents who hold a Bachelor’s degree
in education or in a related field. The Program had identified 30
candidates and will begin in January, 2007.

Coordinator, at nada@ameritech.net
