OUTCOMES Participants will be able to: 1. Describe the range of ethical issues associated with providing cochlear implants to children and teenagers. 2. Explain the range of services and activities that are available from the Auditory-Options Program from parents, professionals and children with hearing loss in the state of Ohio. 3. Describe the development of the human central auditory system and the effects that early deafness and early intervention with cochlear implants may have on maturation of that system. 4. Explain how computing Mean Length of Utterance for words (MLUw) will be of benefit in their clinical speech/language screening activities. 5. Describe the unique character
of cochlear implant recipients who are teenagers, and learn about how
to apply one type of listening intervention approach for this group.
