Licensure
Board Clarifies For license renewal, an SLP needs 20 clock hours, of which at least 10 hours must be in the area of licensure and as many as 10 hours may be in areas related to speech-language pathology, audiology or both. Recently, an OSLHA member asked, "Can you clarify what the Ohio Speech Pathology and Audiology Licensure Board considers ‘in the area of licensure’ and what they consider ‘in a related area’?.” After discussion, the following email, dated July 7, 2003, was sent from Sallie DeBolt, then Executive Director, of the Ohio Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology: "The Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology considered your correspondence at its June 25, 2003, meeting. It was the consensus of the Board that college courses in the areas of reading, writing, spelling, and the school curriculum are directly related to the practice of speech-language pathology in the schools. Accordingly, courses in these areas taken at accredited colleges or universities would count toward the 10 hours required ‘in the area of licensure’ for licensure renewal.” |
