   Scholarship Process

All universities in the state of Ohio that offer graduate programs in the fields of speech-language pathology and/or audiology are invited to nominate one full-time graduate student to submit an application for the OSLHA Scholarship.  The graduate student must be completing their first year of graduate study in speech-language pathology or audiology and be enrolled on a full-time basis.

The OSLHA Scholarship committee considers an outstanding graduate student as someone who not only excels in his/her academic achievements but who has good interpersonal skills and also contributes and is dedicated to the ideals of the profession. This student also shows evidence of leadership.

The student nominated will receive a Free OSLHA Honorary Membership for one fiscal year, and Free Registration to the upcoming OSLHA convention, regardless if they win.  The student will be honored at the OSLHA Convention Awards Luncheon in March.

The application process is as follows:

1)     Each university’s nominee must be sent to the OSLHA Scholarship chair:

  • a completed University Application Form;

  • two letters of recommendation from faculty on University Letterhead; and

  • a typed goal narrative written by the nominee (minimum of 1 page and maximum of 3 double spaced pages).

  • a resume which includes all current activities, practicum, research, association affiliation, etc.

 2)     Each member of the OSLHA Scholarship selection committee (five OSLHA members from a variety of geographical locations and work settings, except universities) will review all the applications (all identifying information removed) and submit a prioritized list of nominees to the chair of the OSLHA Scholarship committee.  The OSLHA Scholarship chair will tabulate the lists in order to determine the OSLHA Scholarship recipients.

3)     The OSLHA Scholarship chair will communicate with the OSLHA Scholarship recipients, the university department chairs of the scholarship recipients, and the Community Foundation of Greater Lorain County (fiscal agent for the OSLHA Scholarship).
