Movie Night Fundraiser for Stuttering Therapy Africa

The Global Development Group, in Partnership with the African Stuttering Centre and Dr. Rodney Gabel, is launching a project to deliver stuttering therapy and training to individuals in Rwanda. In Rwanda, there are 2 speech-language pathologists in a country or over 11 million. Thus, very limited number of therapists to serve approximately 110,000 individuals who stutter. The aim of the project is to deliver services from specialists in stuttering in the US to individuals in Rwanda using teleconferencing software. Courses will also be delivered in the same fashion.

The award winning documentary “When I Stutter” at the historic Maumee Indoor Theatre (601 Conant St., Maumee, OH 43537). The event will begin at 6:30 pm and end by 10:30 pm. This film documents the life experiences of adults who stutter. The director, John Gomez, will be in attendance at this showing and leading a panel discussion of the film. In addition, Dr. Rodney Gabel will be sharing his service and clinical activities in the greater Toledo area addressing the needs of people who stutter.
