WHAT DO YOU FEEL THE IMPACT OF OSLHA SHOULD BE ON OUR PROFESSIONS?
OSLHA’s impact should be felt at the individual, system, and policy levels. Individually, clinicians (and students, our future clinicians) should feel supported and connected to resources (including other clinicians and researchers) through OSLHA; this support and connection directly translates to improved care for our patients. Our clinical systems (e.g., schools, hospitals) can also benefit from OSLHA’s capacity to support the sharing of best-practices and the outstanding resources we have in Ohio. At the policy level, OSLHA is one of the few voices our professions have in advocating for our professions and our patients in the general public and the legislature.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR PRIORITIES FOR THIS POSITION?
In this role, I would like to help foster the passion our students (the future clinicians and leaders of our fields) bring to their educational experiences and translate this passion into ‘giving back’ to the professions and their patients. In general, I would like to see more students participate in OSLHA, whether it be via membership, online continuing education events, conventions, or leadership. Similar to the ‘student track’ of previous conventions, I would like to see a mechanism for students to plan, execute, and participate in a student conference or other student learning experience. Another priority would be helping students understand the value of participating in professional organizations through increasing awareness of the benefits for membership, advocacy, and professional skill development.
WHAT SKILLS OR QUALITIES DO YOU POSSESS THAT WILL BENEFIT YOU MOST IN THIS POSITION?
I have worked in higher education, leadership capacities for approximately 15 years, including various teaching and administrative roles. I have worked with students and professionals across the continuum of development. My understanding of the unique needs of students at different points in their professional journey will support new and creative ideas to continue advancing OSLHA’s initiatives at the student and university levels. Additionally, my experience with ongoing OSLHA activities (e.g., scholarship programs and awards, leadership development program) will allow me to hit the proverbial ground running and have the time/opportunity in this role to also pursue new initiatives.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL THE IMPACT OF OSLHA SHOULD BE ON OUR PROFESSIONS?
I believe all Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists should be involved in OSLHA. WHAT DO YOU FEEL THE IMPACT OF OSLHA SHOULD BE ON OUR PROFESSIONS?
OSLHA should be a gateway to opportunities and growth within our professions for both young, and experienced clinicians alike. Similarly, OSLHA should provide a good bridge between the 2 professions it serves to continue to build a bond, and understanding of each so that clients can be served holistically. OSLHA does well at present to bring relevant CEUs and other up to date information on the professions to allow for evidenced based practice. Likewise, OSLHA provides opportunity for involvement at whatever level each clinician is interested in; both of which I believe should continue. I am hopeful that the efforts OSLHA has been making lately to be more inclusive of both professions will continue to best serve our clients, and include them in what we do. OSLHA should continue to be a resource for professionals to get questions answered, networking opportunities fulfilled, and support when needed from the time we are in school, until we retire and beyond.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR PRIORITIES FOR THIS POSITION?
I would continue to prioritize relevant content to students through feedback from previous events at low to no cost to best meet their needs. I would like to prioritize building identity in, and love for the fields of study and to encourage the students to strive for more information, more connectivity, and more best practice during every step of their career. Through OSLHA, I would also like to connect the universities more to each other so that each program can continue to be unique, but hold similar values paramount above and beyond what the accrediting bodies dictate. I would love to build new programming for students and faculty alike to meet any needs them may have. I feel that the relationships I have started to build with our committee members and SIG reps will continue to build relevant content for those I serve in this position.
WHAT SKILLS OR QUALITIES DO YOU POSSESS THAT WILL BENEFIT YOU MOST IN THIS POSITION?
I am a hard-working, detail-oriented person who will go above and beyond for something I am passionate about. During graduate school I had experience working as a graduate assistant which included: scheduling campus tours, organizing the faculty interview schedule, and answering incoming applicants’ questions, coordinating events, and networking with other universities. I believe my current position, being 5 years out from graduate school, allows me a unique perspective to aid bridging the gap between student life and “new-professional” life. I am also a person who takes deadlines very seriously, and will not allow things within my control to be tardy. I enjoy collaborating with other professionals, and understand that this is important to best hear everyone’s opinion and voice. Lastly, my year experience with the position will assist me in continuing the mission and understand “the ropes” to continue to build on the progress Jenn and I have made this year.

Taylor Kae Hahn, M.A. CCC-SLP

Self Employed Speech-Language Pathologist
Toledo, OH

Meet Taylor Kae
Taylor Kae Hahn, M.A., CCC-SLP is a Toledo native therapist who has been a speech-language pathologist for almost 6 years. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Toledo while working for a local mental health organization called The Zepf Center. Taylor Kae has extensive experience evaluating and treating adults in many settings. She has knowledge working collaboratively with individuals and their care teams for the diagnoses of head and neck cancers, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, etc. She has helped individuals address difficulties with their speech, language, voice, and swallowing impairments.
Taylor Kae would like to be considered for a position with OSLHA to help improve SLP education in the areas they are passionate about, improve outreach by the organization to help with the issues that may not be fully addressed at the national association level, and improve the education of our up and coming SLPs at the university level.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL THE IMPACT OF OSLHA SHOULD BE ON OUR PROFESSIONS?
I believe that OSLHA should impact our professions strongly. There are many laws and other issues that impact SLPs at the state and local level that are difficult to address on a national level. OSLHA has an opportunity to fill that gap since it is a collection of SLPs working to help other SLPs locally.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR PRIORITIES FOR THIS POSITION?
My priorities would be to listen to SLPs locally and hopefully suggest or assist in providing affordable solutions. For example, determining what types of specialty education courses SLPs would like to attend but cannot due to distance to travel or some perceived exclusivity or how to incorporate the well perceived “specialty certifications” into our regular university coursework. If it works and the research strongly suggests SLPs should be doing it, we should be teaching it.
WHAT SKILLS OR QUALITIES DO YOU POSSESS THAT WILL BENEFIT YOU MOST IN THIS POSITION?
I’m flexible, highly motivated, and determined. No, I did not google this question. I’m truly very excited to be an SLP but want to be part of positive changes occurring in our organization and profession.
