Whether servicing your students in person or online, are you looking for some amazing mentor texts to use to support specific language and literacy skills? Mentor texts are books or reading passages that parents and educators can use to model specific skills for learning.

The Science of Reading has shown us that it is critical to explicitly teach children the important skills for phonological awareness and phonics skills through a structured literacy approach. However, that doesn’t mean we just drill and grill our kids with flashcards and boring worksheets. What better way to make these important lessons memorable than reading a book that demonstrates these skills in action? In this workshop, we will use children’s picture books to make meaningful connections to target skills that will promote these key skills, creating confident readers and spellers!  Join this exciting new webinar and receive tons of ideas on using picture books to promote language and literacy goals. Attendees will see the books and activities in action and a list of specific books with their target skill and extension activity will be provided.

     Learner Outcomes:

    • Describe the importance of using a variety of mentor texts
    • Supplement the use of worksheets and flashcards and make meaningful connections through children’s picture books
    • List new book titles that support phonological awareness and phonics skills
    • Add new multisensory extension activities to your learning space
    • Describe new ways to PLAY with words
