Speaking Valve Use with Tracheostomy and Mechanical Ventilation: Now, We’re Talking!

March 23

Event Navigation

Open to nursing, respiratory therapists (RT), speech-language pathologists (SLP), and any healthcare professional who works with this medically complex patient population. Available for up to 8.5 hours of CE credits. For more information or to register: www.passy-muir.com/seminar-columbus

This interactive and hands-on seminar is designed to take the clinician from understanding the basics of a tracheostomy, including the physiologic impact on a patient’s respiratory, speech and swallowing functions, to participating in assessment and treatment discussions for no-leak speaking Valve use. Clinicians will learn step-by-step methods for evaluating a patient for use of the Valve both with and without mechanical ventilation. Strategies for restoring communication, improving swallow function, improving secretion management, and restoring pressures in adults who require tracheostomy will be reviewed. Attendees will receive practical application experience during breakout sessions which include demonstrations, hands-on training, and round table discussions. Attendees also will learn the early intervention considerations and strategies for utilizing a no-leak speaking valve through case studies, mock assessments and patient videos.

Registered seminar attendees will be granted access to a pre-recorded webinar, “Fundamentals: Tracheostomy Tubes to Mechanical Ventilation.” Approximately 2 weeks prior to attending the seminar, a link for this special one-hour webinar will be provided via email. This is only available to seminar attendees and provides an overview of the basics of a tracheostomy tube, cuff management with inflation and deflation, and basic vent terminology. It is highly recommended as a prerequisite to the in-person seminar. To receive CE for the webinar, attendees complete the course, quiz and evaluation.

If registered by March 1, cost is $149.
