Shyla Miller, M.A., CCC-SLP is a pediatric SLP employed at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She specializes in treating preschool patients with a history of trauma from neglect, child abuse, family violence or other psychological trauma. Her other areas of clinical interest include evaluating patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and evaluating and treating patients with cleft lip/palate, resonance and speech sound disorders. Shyla is the co-chair of the Students Learning About Speech & Hearing (/slash/) Summer Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. This program was developed to provide high school students from under-represented backgrounds the opportunity to learn about speech language pathology and audiology, engage in hands-on activities, and network with a variety of professionals and university students. She received both her B.S. and M.A. from the University of Cincinnati. She regularly gives back to the profession by mentoring undergraduate students and supervising graduate practicum students. Shyla has been a member of OSLHA since 2009. She has served in several roles, most notably including 6 years as Secretary, 2 years as the Vice President of Resource Development, and 3 years as the Scholarship & Outstanding Student Awards Committee Chair. In her free time, Shyla enjoys traveling around the world, creating stained glass, and painting with watercolors.

I strongly agree with OSLHA s mission statement of empowering the speech and hearing community through advocacy, education, and collaboration. OSLHA has an incredible opportunity to connect speech language pathologists, audiologists, and students from across the state. OSLHA can keep members informed of state-level legislation affecting our fields and lead advocacy efforts to best promote the needs of its members. OSLHA provides a venue for promoting open discussion on a variety of professional issues ensuring that all of our voices are heard. OSLHA benefits its members by providing high quality continuing education,
professional and student awards, and leadership opportunities. 

In this role, I would like to increase membership and member engagement, to initiate and foster open discussion of hot topics impacting our field and state-wide advocacy efforts, to rebuild a more robust state-wide convention and to promote fiscal responsibility. 

I have been a member of OSLHA for over 15 years and have actively served in many leadership roles allowing me to learn about OSLHA’s strengths and identify areas of opportunity. In my role as Secretary over two consecutive terms, I was able to effectively collaborate with board members and I gained immense
knowledge of OSLHA’s history, by-laws, and procedures. I am familiar with reading budgets and actively seek ways to promote responsible financial stewardship. I have had experience participating in strategic planning meetings, setting annual goals, and tracking progress. In my role as the 2016 Convention Co-Chair, I helped to lead a highly successful and robust convention with some of the strongest attendance numbers in recent times. I would describe myself as someone who is innovative, attentive to details, and a creative problem solver.

Michelle Fritz, M.A., CCC-SLP, BCS-S serves as Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital’s Manager of Rehab Services managing a team of approximately 40 OTs, PTs, and SLPs. She received a bachelor degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Toledo in 2002 and a master’s degree in speech-
language pathology from Michigan State University in 2004. Over the past 17 years, she has provided patient care in various medical settings including acute care, acute rehab, and outpatient settings. She received her Board Certification in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders in 2016 and serves as a mentor to BCS-S
Protégés. Michelle is a member of ASHA, OSLHA, and the Dysphagia Research Society. Her areas of interest include dysphagia management, ethics in dysphagia management, and clinical education. Throughout her career, Michelle has supervised a number of graduate clinicians as well as clinical fellows. She served for a number of years as the clinical coordinator for Cleveland Clinic managing placement of graduate clinicians. She enjoys providing guest lectures to local universities and was appointed as Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) during the 2019-2020
academic year. In addition, Michelle worked with her co-clinical team leader to achieve ASHA CE Provider status for Cleveland Clinic Rehab & Sports Therapy in 2018 and has presented at a number of CE offerings.

I believe OSLHA should support growth and development for our SLPs. This can be achieved by providing evidence based practices for all areas of our field. OSLHA should continue to be an opportunity for professionals to network and support one another helping each of us to practice at the top of our license.

In this role, I would like to work to achieve opportunities for SLPs to learn, grow, and network. My focus would be promoting evidence based practices by learning from current research and opportunities to teach one another. 

I have management experience in my current position as I have mentored a growing team of 40+ therapists from three different disciplines. I have significant experience in coordinating CE opportunities as well as presenting at them. I learned a great deal in my role as ASHA CE Administrator for a large institute within the
Cleveland Clinic. I have spent a number of years coordinating clinical placements for my organization as well as serving as a clinical instructor. Most importantly, I love my profession and my patients and I enjoy any opportunity where I can help to support them both.

Ann is currently a speech-language pathologist with over ten years of experience in schools, home health, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, acute care, outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation. She currently works for Advantage Home Health Services in North Canton. She has been a member of OSLHA since undergraduate school and served on the OSLHA Legislative Council during grad school as part of her duties on the NSSLHA Executive Council for her region from 2007-2009. Ann is also an OHSAA basketball official and enjoys watching sports, spoiling her nephews and niece and going on adventures with her little dog.

Advocacy is very important at the state level as change has to occur first in the before success is achieved nationally. OSLHA actively advocates for SLPs in all areas for better workload balance and getting services covered for those who need them.

My priorities for this position would be to utilize my MBA to create new ideas for the organization moving forward. OSLHA has a excellent foundation which can be used to take the organization to the next level with creating opportunities for students to get involved and make positive change in the profession.

My MBA in Healthcare with a specialization in applied analytics has provided me with the skills necessary to perform the duties of business development. I can look at a problem from both a clinical and business prospective to work with others to find an appropriate solution.

Maggie Kettler, Au.D. is an Audiologist and Senior Clinical Director at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. Dr Kettler specializes in diagnostics and treatment of hearing impaired children from birth-21 years old. She works with patients of varying ages and developmental needs. She is currently a member of the interdisciplinary cochlear implant team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She is a former president of the Ohio Speech Language and Hearing Association and is currently a member of the Ohio Speech and Hearing Government Affairs Coalition. She is also an active member American Academy of Audiology. Maggie is leading the statewide effort of Targeted CMV screening in Ohio. Maggie is passionate about serving not only our patients but also the audiology community.

My priorities for this position would be to stay engaged with GAC and advocacy efforts and to help better inform the constituents of current topics that are relevant to our fields. It is really important to stay current and continue advocating so we can grow as a profession and continue to meet our patients’ needs.

I have had many opportunities to lead within the state and national organizations (OSLHA and AAA). I have a good understanding of the process and importance of advocacy. I have strong communication skills and a passion for the area of audiology. I have also been on GAC for numerous years so can provide some historical perspective when issues arise.
